Too Early for Christmas?

Thanksgiving is just three days away and most thoughts will be on the holidays. Of course there are radio stations especially here in Dallas that have been playing Christmas music since November 1st. I am a one holiday at a time person. I definitely do not care to listen to Christmas music before celebrating Thanksgiving.

I remember as a teenager that Christmas decorations and Christmas trees were not put up until after Thanksgiving. Now there are being seen in stores right after Halloween. My daughter put up her Christmas tree yesterday. I didn't raise her that way. It is the sign of the times. Commercialism of Christmas now dictates when decorations go up. If the stores decorate now, they start the shopping season earlier and hopefully sell more.

I know in three days I will begin getting the Christmas spirit and Christmas music will blare from my speakers from the radio or stereo. As a baby boomer I really listen more to the Christmas standards from the era I grew up by the artists I remember. I must admit today's artist do very well with the Christmas music that we grew up with. But nothing can match the old standards to recall those innocent times. I have compiled what I feel was the best Christmas songs of our times. You can listen to some of these on my 60s website.

*****Of course I think one of the funniest songs for Christmas of all time is Blue Christmas by Denny Brownlee alias Seymour Swine. Although it was released later than the Baby Boomer generation I have included it on the list.
